real party: simply sweet party

February 15, 2011

We were really excited when Michelle sent in this  party for her 2-year-old Avery.  We love that its a sweet party simply about the occasion and that Michelle focused efforts on putting together a fun menu that was perfectly displayed.

Isn’t this snack mix area such a great idea?  We love it and we love that its fun way to provide healthy snacks!

And it doesn’t hurt that the photography is just gorgeous!  For more photos and resources, visit Michelle’s blog.  Thanks, Michelle, for sharing!

Sweet valentines

February 11, 2011

A Valentine with a treat is always fun to receive but what we love even more is a creative, candy-less, handmade Valentine.  Here are a few of our favorites…maybe a little inspiration for those last minute Valentine’s you’re creating this weekend? : )

A sweet little kite (via bloesem kids)!

Or a magnifying glass / eyeglass card (see dandee for a free download)!

a little valentine treat

February 10, 2011

Are you familiar with chocolate peanut butter balls also known as buckeyes? I made a little Valentine’s Day version (read: I made them into a heart) that would be a perfect party favor or sweet treat for the upcoming holiday.

First, mix 1/2 cup peanut butter, 1 Tbsp room temperature butter and 1/4 cup + 2 Tbsp powdered sugar. I like to add about 3/4 cup rice krispies to the mix or crushed pretzels for a little crunch.

Press into an 8×8 pan then cut out hearts with a heart shaped cookie cutter. Put in freezer for ten minutes to harden.

Dip in melted chocolate and press a candy stick into the bottom. Freeze for ten more minutes.
Package and tie. Then let your kids lick the bowl!

I believe in the power of confetti. Can you think of any other party decoration that does so much and costs so little? Tear up some old magazines and you’ve got yourself an instant party. Here’s some pretty confetti inspiration that will have you pulling out your hole puncher.

Joke wrapped packages in double sided tape then dipped them in confetti. Genius! confetti_fun1

See? Instant party.

real party: vintage storybook party

February 8, 2011

Get ready for an absolutely charming party today!  This party was by Vicky of A Subtle Revelry (formerly The City Cradle) for her 2-year-old twins.  The party took place in there home where they created a sweet cabin atmosphere – which provided the perfect backdrop for a subdued, vintage afternoon celebration.

Here’s a wonderful sketch of the party by Amanda Waggoner.  Isn’t this a wonderful keepsake?

We love all of Vicky’s wonderful handmade touches.

For party hats, Vicky folded hats out of copied book paper – what a festive way to bring print into the design!

Vicky also created this large felt storybook board for the kids to play on with vintage book characters!

Thanks, Vicky, for sharing your creativity.  We adore this party.

hot chocolate on a stick

February 2, 2011

I have yet to hear if Phil saw his shadow or not but my pessimistic side is thinking there will be more winter. To help the final cold months go by a little faster, a party centered around hot chocolate on a stick needs to be on the horizon. The newly opened Ticket Kitchen has a delicious looking selection (and pretty styling!).

They even have a special spot on their website for party ideas and free printables. Actually, who cares about the groundhog?! There’s no excuse not to buy a whole box.

snowball fight survival kit

January 27, 2011

We got our first real snow of the season here in Washington, DC and we’ve got snowballs, snowmen + sledding on our minds.  Wouldn’t this survival kit be fun for any outing with friends or a snow-filled party?

So fun and we’re sure anyone would love to receive!  Images from by and from Katherine Marie Photography.
