real party: treasure hunt party

July 27, 2010

This week’s Real Party is a fun treasure hunt party sent to us by Lisa of lotus+november.  Lisa’s son celebrated his 6th birthday at a local community park commonly referred to as “The Rock Playground” – it was a perfect tie-in for the invitation and the party’s main activity: a prospector’s treasure hunt! The invitation simulated a map that started at “Your House” and finished at “The Rock Playground.” Party details and drawings hinting at a “hunt” were scattered throughout the card. The back side featured an outdated and worn road map that was individually trimmed and affixed to each card.A treasure map was created to help the kids uncover jewels, gems and treasures that were positioned throughout the baseball field adjacent to the park. We visited the site weeks before and sketched out a dummy map that plotted out the trees, fence lines, baseball diamond and any other landmarks that would be essential markers for the kids to find the treasures. From this rough sketch, the map was designed on the computer but it could be easily be hand-drawn and colored for a more authentic look (check back tomorrow on a DIY post and template for the treasure hunt). We love all the sweet treats Lisa also created for the party, including these ice cream cone cupcakes.  See more here on her blog.

And of course coordinating thank you cards to top it all off!

Stay tuned … tomorrow we will be sharing a DIY post and download on the treasure hunt.  Thank you again, Lisa, for sharing!
